Did You Last.fm Today?

So you love to listen to Gothic Rock? But can't find any groups to share your passion with? Last.fm comes to the rescue. It's a music related social networking site that has introduced us to the buzzword Scrobbling. Scrobbling is a music recommendation system. Scrobbling a song means that when you listen to it, the name of the song is sent to Last.fm and added to your music profile.

Once you've signed up and downloaded Last.fm, you can scrobble songs you listen to on your computer or iPod automatically. Start scrobbling yourself, and see what artists you really listen to the most. Songs you listen to will also appear on your Last.fm profile page for others to see.

You can create custom radio stations and playlists from any of the audio tracks in Last.fm's music library, and would be able to listen to some individual tracks on demand, or download tracks if the rights holder has previously authorised it. Registration is required to acquire a profile but is not necessary to view any part of the site or to listen to radio stations.

Registration is of two types. One is FREE (yes, you heard it right!) and the other one is a measly £1.50 per month. A little bit about the company, Last.fm is a UK-based Internet radio and music community website, founded in 2002. It claims over 21 million active users based in more than 200 countries. On 30 May 2007, CBS Interactive acquired Last.fm for £140m ($280m USD).

Now you would not have any problems sharing your passion of music, with Last.fm you would be able to find anything, anyone, anywhere related to music.
